What exactly do I need to get started?
#1
I am brand new to this forum, and to DRO in general!!

I have seen "I recommend replacing the stock cables with braid-shielded ones" ok fine where do I get the braid-shielded cables?

I have the iGaging DRO, what board(s) do I need? There is a "Complete Kit (Unassembled)" and then there is the TouchDRO iGaging Adapter do I need both? There are other boards as well.

I have seen some Arduino projects.

What exactly is a controller board doing?

I am very confused.

Thanks for the help, Ralph

Ralph,
Any store that sells USB cables should have shielded USB cables. That said, some iGaiging scales come with shielded cables, some don't. I wouldn't worry about that until you decide that you have a problem.

Either board will work. Kit will be cheaper but you will need to build it. iGaging adapter is almost ready to go: you will need to connect the cables to it somehow. Some people just cut the USB connector off, strip 1/8" of isolation off the wire and screw them in; others build adapters using USB breakout boards (which you would need to buy).

Before you start spending money, take a look at the project page (http://www.yuriystoys.com/p/android-dro.html), follow the link to the step-by-step overview, etc. There isn't much to the setup, but it's useful to understand the "large picture" first.

Regards
Yuriy
