Ted,

I don’t know if those scales will work. When I had a question I posted it on Yuriy’s product page and with a link and he got back within get hours.

You should also check out his post on how to select scales. I’m sure you already have.

It may help if you start a new topic with a title “Will shar scales work with TouchDRO” and you may get more hits for users as well as Yuriy. Include a link to the exact scales that should help too.

Or keep posting here. That works too. I hoe you find the information you need. Good luck!

The Kindle Fire works!  I ordered the Fire 7 and an inexpensive mount to start the process.

Kindle Fire 7
Vastar iPad Tripod Mount

The Kindle didn't quite fit (wasn't tall enough / ~.25" off) so I made a quick adapter on the Makerbot and it's good to go.  It slips on the top edge to allow the mount to really clamp down.  I had to cut away a bit of foam that touches on the back of the tablet to alleviate extra pressure caused by the additional thickness of adapter on the back side, no big deal as there is still enough left to apply an appropriate amount of pressure and friction. Now it is confidently held and I can beat on it with greasy fingers...  It worked out perfect!!!

Adapter and tablet out of the box.

Adapter doesn't close enough.  Notice the gap ant how only the tip of the fingers hold the tablet.

Adapter clip.  Extrusion printed on Makerbot.

Can't see the line can you Russ?  No gap.

Detail of the foam that had to be cut away.

Regarding getting TouchDRO on the tablet without access to the Google Play Store, I followed a link I found in the comments section of Yuriy's blog post on the Fire 7 test and it worked perfect.  Link below to GregglesTV on YouTube.

$50 Amazon Fire Tablet How To Install Google Play Store + Google Services (Easy No PC Needed)

I'll keep the updates coming.  Hit me up with any questions.

Thank you for stopping by,
_Mike

Is there a way to move this thread to the project gallery board? I realize this is probably the wrong place to document an install.

No worries Yuriy.  This spot is a good as any...

One question for you.  Will this power supply work?

It seems to have it all.  I have access to a few others but they don't specify AC or DC output.  Just 5V, 9V, or 12V and that scares me a bit.  I don't want to break another.

Thank you!

The X and Z scales have been mounted and calibrated.  A couple hiccups with calibration and Bluetooth but they sorted themselves out thanks to the threads on this forum.

Bluetooth Disconnecting Solved: Every time I went to settings during calibration the tablet would disconnect from the TouchDRO board.  I noticed that it took 5 seconds each time it disconnected and read a reply from Yuriy that this is build into the software and that if it doesn't get a good reading from the scale every 5 seconds it will disconnect.  I cannot seem to find the post but will keep digging.  And since the time matched and it was only happening in settings this seemed to make sense.  A non-issue unless it starts happening on the readout screen

Calibration Error Solved:  I was calibrating based on Yuriy's instructional video and everything matched(except Bluetooth disconnecting in settings) until the last step where it would say confirm 3" and his screen showed 3".  Well mine was off by ~.3050 every time.  I am using AccuRemote scales and was getting a CPI calibration number of 2560 consistently but couldn't figure it out.  I tried multiple power supplies, inverted the reading, turned off wifi, restarted multiple times and kept getting the same result.  Until... I left the calibration alone, zeroed out at the static 123 block, placed the other 123 block back and checked. Well, well, if it wasn't calibrated!  I guess I was following the direction too closely. When he says check for 3" do it any way that makes sense to you, because my screen didn't automatically update.  It showed either 3.3050 or 0.3050...

Now the X and Z are in and calibrated.  On to the Y, which may be a bit fussier.  I'll share photos once I take some as I've been doing a bad job of documenting.

Thanks to Yuriy and this forum.  All I had to do was take a break, do some reading and come back with a fresh perspective.  Don't smash things!

Thanks for stopping by,
_Mike

BTW - The power supply above worked and was Yuriy approved!
