TouchDRO Build for my Millrite Milling Machine
#1
So finally I pulled the trigger and ordered Yuriy's kit!  I am so excited to install a DRO on my Millrite and hopefully use it more.  I plan on continuing to document the install here if you don't mind.

Before I start... A HUGE thank you to Yuriy for creating all of this.  And for offering the application for free. I don't know if we all understand how powerful this application is and that Yuriy has shared it with us.  And continues to maintain, update and add features for us.  Again thank you Yuriy!

Ok enough...  I am waiting on a tablet (Amazon Fire7) and scales (AccuRemote) but couldn't help myself.  I got a head start on the housing.  Built in Solidworks.  I had to measure the board and it's close, not perfect.  I'm using the iGaging micro-usb board.  I'm a designer by trade and really had to stop myself from turning this into a design exercise and capped myself to a 2 hour CAD build.  I did want to make sure Yuriy gets all of the credit.

Printed on a Makerbot.

Thank you for stopping by,
_Mike

It looks like I can only upload 5 photos per thread.  So I had to break it up.

Everything fit!

I should have the table and one of the scales tonight.  I can't wait to plug it in!

Hit me up with any questions.

Thank you for stopping by,
_Mike

Mike,
this is a nice looking box. Are you planning to post it somewhere? If so, I'd love to link to it.

Thank you

Yuriy,

I wasn't planning on posting the file.  If others are interested, and you are OK with it, I am happy to share or make parts. I'd love your thoughts.

I did notice one thing... I misspelled your name!  Sincere apologies.  I'll update now!!!

A nice enclosure would help a lot of people do a nice clean install. Please do keep us posted on your progress if you can.

I think I may have ruins the board. I plugged it into an old style Heavy wall wart.

Output 12VAC 1250mA

Within seconds I could smell it. Burning. What did I do wrong?  I thought 5V - 15V at least 200mA would work.

The bit circled looks visibly affected.

I don't want to plug it back in. I don't think it should smell like burning. What should I do next? I'm super bummed, I was planning on playing with the install this weekend. I have the software working on the fire tablet, no problem. I used the link provided on this site.

I'm happy to share the housing. If you have access to a 3D printer you can print the STL files. If you don't have a printer I'll work with Yuriy on what he'd like to do.

Thank you for the feedback!

So I used the wrong type power supply. For those considering getting one these boards, you must use a 5-12VDC power supply.  I used a 12VAC unit and fried the board. The AC output is what fried the voltage regulator on the board. Boy does it smell and it happens so fast.

So a bump in the road. A little time lost but lesson learned.

I'll post again once I get more parts in. Thank you Yuriy for helping me figure out what I did wrong.

I’m still super excited about this build. More anxious than ever now that I have to wait.

Ted,
I'm no tax lawyer, but a quick check shows that between VAT and import tariff you are looking at about 25% tax to get a board into SAR + $14 shipping. That's about $122; how did you get to $200?

Mike,
Replacement board is in the mail. You will have it mid next week. Just send the damaged one back when you get a chance.

Yuriy,

You are AWESOME!

I’ll send the board back first thing Tuesday. I missed the post office by 30 minutes... and Monday is a holiday.

I can’t thank you enough for helping me out with this. You didn’t have you.

I bet I order another and set up my lathe in the near future.  I for sure know a couple guys with machines that could use a DRO!

So pumped!

Thanks again,
_Mike
