Software Documentation
#1
Just wondering if anyone has created a manual for the TouchDRO software.  I'm a hobbyist and never been exposed to a fully functional DRO system so not only are a lot of the terms are foreign to me, I really have no idea what features may be lurking under the covers.  Basically all I know how to do is display and read the axis travel.

Something as simple as "long pressing" the Abs/Inc button will ZERO the axis - I would have never guessed that and probably have never known it if Yuriy hadn't mentioned it in a reply on Google+.

I've watched every video on YouTube (several times) that I can find and pretty much read all I can find as well, but it seems that most of the written word is dealing with building the boards and not the actual software usage.

I've been writing computer programs since the late 70s (before the PC was invented) so I know how hard it is to document a project when you're busy writing code but hopefully there's something out there that will help this old dog learn some new tricks.

Lee,
That is my project for the summer. I wanted to "stabilize" the UI before writing the manual. The plan was to have it done early this year, but life got in the way...

A friend of mine from England, Mike Cowlishaw, always said "document before you implement"; however, I've never been able to do it. Mike is a retired IBM Fellow who authored the Rexx programming language which was originally developed for the IBM mainframes. It is currently on practically every computer platform out there. I was a contributor to the Open Object Rexx project for years, but like you said, "life gets in the way."

I'm looking for some instructions on what this app does and how to operate it but can't find anything. ?? Has anything been done yet?

I am also waiting for a good instruction manual to go with this fantastic app.
I realise that as soon as it is written it will probably need amending, and it is a big ask, but I bet there are plenty of users out there that like bobs409 and me need comprehensive help to start using it.
I.E. I have no idea how to set my lathe tools so that I can swap them out during a job.
I have no idea how to use the facility that ensures that even after moving the dials while  off you can get back to the original place
I have asked the 5 axis machinists at work, but they are kind of fixated on the software they are used to...
So please would someone write something akin to a " touchdro guide for absolute numpties" or do a series of YouTube videos that have a verbal commentary, and highlight where a cursor is going to go before it clicks. The vids already out ther are very very very very hard to follow. They do things too quickly, with the assumption you have the eyesight of an eagle :o)

I don't know if this will help (most likely not) but I have been half-hearted making my own manual  see attached.

Hello,
Thank you for the info.
Yes, this procedure was done ... in my opinion it represents a tiny part of the possibilities of TouchDro. It's a shame because it is an extraordinary tool. Apart from seeing the displacement of the straggler, the transversal and the speed of rotation, without a precise documentation the rest is useless. apart from being a professional machining. But for us it's Chinese ...

Bonjour,
A+
