Tach IR sensor
#1
I posted this in another thread but this might be found with the search.

All you need for a tach is some reflective tape and a IR (Infra Red) sensor.

That's it really simple.

Tese sensors have four wires VCC, GND D0 and A0, just use VCC, GND and DO.

Put a 5k resistor on B to GND and you are all set!!

Great post, was looking to do the exact same thing.  Ordering the IR now.  Is there any magic with the distance on the sensor to the tape ?

re: distance, closer is probable better, I'd try for < 1/2" or so.
