Absolute DRO+
#1
Hi, have a couple questions about using the Absolute DRO+ scales with a MSP430 Launchpad.

There are several posts spread out over a long period of time and I have been trying to piece them together.

It looks like they are only supported on the "Mixed" scale firmware is that correct? Not the Igauging specific version.

Also looking at the pre-built boards there aren't external pull up resistors present, but in the "connecting Absolute DRO+ scales" post it shows the need for an adapter board to connect to the MSP430. Are the internal pull ups not enabled for the MSP430 DIY firmware? I guess the root of my question is are the external pull ups still required on the current versions?

Thanks!

I am using  Igaging Absolute + scales with The Igaging pre-built board. everything was plug and play after I wired up the USB connectors. now you don't even have to do that.

I have a MSP430 launchpad, so I have to build the controller DIY style.

Hi,
Your best bet is the pre-made board. Absolute scales, especially the newer ones, can get pretty finicky and a lot of people had problems with mixed scale firmware/controllers. On the downloads page I don't even mention that the Absolute scales are supported anymore.
The firmware that ships with the prebuilt board handles pull-up/down resistors automatically during the protocol detection stage. If you decide to build a controller, you'll need to experiment to figure out what your scale likes. I.e. some scales work better with the pin floating.
Thank you
Yuriy

Ok sounds good. I already have a MSP430, so I figured I would give it a go as it doesn't require me getting anything else at this point.
