Compatability - jdurnya - 06-08-2018
Hi guys, i have an old Accurite 5 made by bausch and lomb will the scales interface with your system ? looks to have 6 pin din type plugs for the glass scales

im sorry but i dont.. this thing is ancient.. probably 30 - 40 years old

It's unlikely it will work, then. Back then there was no standard and I haven't see many quadrature scales from that era.

well, i found the scales on acu-rite.com
its a 6 pin system
a square wave signal
b square wave signal in quadrature
(90 degree nominal phase relationship) with channel "A" signal
c vcc, +5.1 plus /minus .1 Vdc ,current 200ma max
d common ( power supply and signal return )
e shield, reading head case ground
f fiducial trigger output signal ( when provided )
its called a A-R/5 10um .0005" resolution scale assembly

I found the a and b outputs to be open collector with 680 ohm pullups, despite documentation to the contrary. Thus a simple 1k ohm pulldown at MSP inputs was perfect to do a level shift of 5v scale VCC to 3.2v for safe input to MSP. (Your AR-5 may be different...measure and verify.) Operating with no issues. not so good at electronics.. so u are saying i can ad a 1k ohm resistor to the 5 volt line and it will be ok ?
