Optical Comparator / Reverse Engineering - economycar - 09-30-2017

Hi, forgive me if these features already exist or if they have been discussed, I could not find them when searching the forum or looking at the app.

I have an optical comparator and I am planning on adding a 2 axis DRO. There are some features that would be very useful on a comparator but also on a mill for 2D measuring/reverse engineering. These would include calculating the distance and angle between two points as well as the ability to calculate the radius/diameter of a circle by sampling three points. In addition the ability to output a correctly scaled/dimensioned DXF file with points/radii which could be imported into a cad program would be amazing. While I know not many people will have an optical comparator, anyone with a mill could use a touch probe or a digital microscope with crosshairs to take fairly accurate measurements. Let me know if this is something you would consider.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
I am adding this to the new version. I'll see what I can do with the circle.

Cool, that looks great. Also, perhaps the DXF output is wishful thinking, maybe there is a way to output the data as a spreadsheet file (CSV?) or some other way.
Thanks,
Mike
