Older adapter board... Touch probe connection? - MidniteMachinist - 04-22-2023

I've got an older glass-scale adapter board, like this one: https://www.yuriystoys.com/2016/02/touchdro-quadrature-adapter-details.html?m=1

I just  picked up a touch probe, and I'd like to use it on multiple machines. My newest mill has the newest-version board, and it's a simple 5v-5v, signal-signal, gnd-gnd affair.

Does the older board connect the same? 5v-5v, gnd-gnd, and then connect the output wire to the "probe" pad on the adapter board?

So... I don't remember. I'll need to dig up the old files.
Most probes are normally-closed switches. When you touch something, the connection is broken and the probe opens. With very few exceptions, you will be connecting the probe as a switch between the signal pin and Vcc or Gnd. (this is the part I don't remember; new boards have the pin pulled up by default...)
You can test by connecting to the board using a terminal app. When inactive, probe will be reading p0; Short the middle pin to Vcc. If the output reads p1 - it's pulled down. Otherwise, short the middle pin to Gnd. The output should read "p1;"

With nothing connected to the probe pin, the app says the probe is triggered. Same when the probe pin is connected to GND. It's all good when connected to 5V, and triggers when I pull the jumper.

I tried a BT terminal app (a few, actually), and best I can tell, P1 when connected to 5V, P0 otherwise.

So does this mean that if the newer board is pulled up, and this one is pulled down, I'll need a transistor to flip the signal in order to use the probe on the old board? Or can I just switch VCC and GND when connected to the old board?

EDIT: Reversing GND and 5V works! However, I need to make sure the probe isn't connected when I boot the adapter board. I guess that has to do with it auto-detecting the probe type (NC vs NO).
