Got my board kit today delivered to the UK.
Customs Man stung me for duty and the handling fees. Oh Well.

It's about 1/2 assembled.
Wondering why you don't supply Sockets for the LM339's.
For a very small cost it would make assembly easier for most and maybe less heat damaged chips...

Alex

Alex,
I was told that in the UK there is no duty on anything under 135 quid. Is that not the case?

It didn't dawn on me to socket the comparators, to be honest. The only reason I socket the chip is so it's easy to take it out and reprogram if needed.

Yuriy
Hi Yuriy
To attempt to dodge the UK Customs you can send the item as "Replacement Parts"
UK Customs fees are very hit n miss. Sometimes you get charged, sometimes not.
I don't believe there is a Limit or anything like that.

I hope to complete the board tonight.

Next is to try and solder wires to my scales (Chinese variety) as I'm still not able to source the leads at a reasonable price.

Alex.

RE: Buying Quadrature Board - Cabbagestack - 09-22-2016

Hi Yuriy,
I'd like to buy a quadrature pre-soldered board. I'm planning on using Jenix glass scales on the mill and lathe; and possibly one Renishaw magnetic for the lathe cross slide. I have a Samsung Galaxy 10.1" Tab 2 (Jellybean). Thanks!

As far as I can tell Jenix scales use standard quadrature output, so they will work fine with TouchDRO.You can buy the board from the store: http://www.yuriystoys.com/p/store.html.

Thank you
Yuriy

P.S. I have three more wire harness sets left and probably won't be getting more, so the "no soldering" kit is available "while supplies last"...

RE: Buying Quadrature Board - Cabbagestack - 09-22-2016

Hi Yuriy,
Just bought the no-soldering board, as I'm sure you have noticed by now. When you say "...three more wire harness sets left and probably won't be getting more..." do you mean that from now on people will have to make their own? Thus if one (me) wants a no-solder board in the future, the no-solder board itself will be available, but the individual will have to make up their own harnesses? Thanks. This is important to know in case I want to order a spare. Thank You !!

Got the order. Thank you. You will have it around mid next week.
Yes. The harnesses are insanely expensive to build (my cost is $8.15 a piece for parts and labor) if I buy them in 500 PCS increment. For the trial run I got 100 (for 25 boards), so right now I'm selling them at below cost and they sell at a glacial pace. I'd have to spend over 4k$ for the next batch in order to break even or over 10K$ to make any money on them and I can't justify that investment right now.

Thank you
Yuriy

Buying second Quadrature board - Cabbagestack - 09-26-2016

Hi Yuriy,
bought another one. Decided better buy two, while the preassembled ones are still available.

Can you direct me to an example of what you mean by old style "wall wart" so I know what to look for? Like an example somewhere on the Internet? Or better yet, if you have any old ones sell me a one or two. Thanks!

Sorry, missed the post...
You are looking for something like this: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wall_wart_opened.JPG#/media/File:Wall_wart_opened.JPG
Newer power adapters use a switching power supply inside and are generally small and lighter. The old-style ones have a heavy transformer which provides mains isolation. You should be able to find quite a few in a thrift store for a couple of dollars. Look for ones that have output voltage between 6V and 12V.
I'll check if I have a small one in my "junk box" and if it fits into the box, I'll send you one with the board.

Hope this helps.
Thank you
Yuriy
